Cross Bite Correction without Braces
LEFT A significant cross-bite in this patient required orthopedic appliances and braces to correct. RIGHT The patient refused to wear braces and our treatment was limited to appliance wear for 6 months. The final result was better than we expected, despite the limited treatment.
This 12 year-old patient had a narrow upper jaw, which was causing the cross-bite. He refused to wear braces. There we no abnormal habits noted, such as tongue thrusting or previous thumb sucking or pacifier use. Tonsils were normal.
Our 12 year old patient was fairly compliant with wearing his corrective appliance for 6 months. The final photos were actually taken 4 years after treatment to show that the relapse was minimal. The treatment even allowed his bite to settle in and the teeth to erupt into more normal positions.
